Cost optimization

8 min read

Reduce EC2 costs in 30 minutes

Audit instance utilization, right-size oversized nodes, and clean up idle resources flagged by EcoSync.

Prerequisites

  • An EcoSync account with AWS connected
  • At least one completed sync

Steps

  1. 1

    Sync your AWS inventory

Open Dashboard → Services and click Sync Now. Wait for the sync to complete so cost and utilization data is current across all configured regions.

  2. 2

    Find high-cost waste

Go to Dashboard → Services, sort by monthly cost, and filter status to Possible Waste or Waste. These resources have low utilization or appear idle based on CloudWatch metrics.

  3. 3

    Right-size or stop non-production instances

For dev/staging instances with consistently low CPU over 14 days, stop them outside business hours or downgrade to a smaller instance type. Apply changes in AWS, then re-sync to verify savings.

  4. 4

    Set alert rules for regressions

Open Dashboard → Alerts and create a budget_exceeded rule with your monthly USD cap, plus a cost_spike rule (e.g. 20% increase vs. last sync). Alerts run automatically after each sync.
